Reading is both grouped and individualized in my class. We use the McGraw-Hill reading series, as well as other tradebooks. Students read many different types of materials. Accelerated Reader is used at our school to motivate students to become lifelong readers. They read books and then take tests on the computer. They earn points, and then at certain times in the school year they get to spend these points at our AR store.
Please set a time each night to work with your child by listening to him/her read. Continue to read to your child various types of literature as well! It is essential that your child practice reading each night to maintain steady progress. In order to be promoted, students must complete the reading books that are required. These requirements will be explained at length at conferences and parent letters.
