7th Read 180

Read
180 is an intensive language arts program which should help your child
make significant gains in reading. The class consists of a ninety
minute reading block: 20 minutes of group instruction; followed by
three rotations of 20 minutes on the computer working on individualized
instruction, 20 minutes of independent reading, and 20 minutes of small
group instruction;
and then a 10 wrap-up of the day's lesson. The students use the
rBook textbook which
incorporates the state curriculum with content
that engages them with current, high interest topics. The 7th
grade also uses the Elements of
Literature textbook and reads all the stories required by the
county. This is to assure that the Read 180 students have read
the same stories, and that the transition to 8th grade reading goes
smoothly. Together,
all of these components help build the skills to become a successful
reader. Additionally, studies show that the program also improves
a student's motivation, confidence and desire to succeed. If
needed, all Sevier County high schools now have the high school version
of Read 180.
