Accelerated Reading Program

The Accelerated Reading Program  (AR) is computer program that we use to enrich your child's reading skills.  It can also be used to assess your child's reading skills and identify areas of strength and areas of weakness.

Your child was tested to determine a certain color level of books that he or she should read.  It should not be too hard nor should it be too easy.  Based on your child's reading ability, a point goal is established each six weeks.  Your child will read an AR book, then take a test on the computer.  If your child passes the test, he or she will score points.

At the end of the six weeks, if  the points goal has been met, your child will get to participate in a 2nd grade level reward of some type.  If the goal is not met, you child will spend time reading AR books while the others are having their reward time.

I do not punish the students for not meeting their goal.  I encourage them to meet it.  They may bring their library books home and they also take tests on their reading stories.  Encourage your child to meet their goal.
